The Reverence Project was born out of a need for hope and agency. Many of us live with feelings of apathy towards the state of our planet. Progress is hindered when we feel alone and insignificant. To combat this, The Reverence Project wants to offer an alternative mindset that encourages positive action and allows for mindfulness. When we rest assured in community it allows us to make empowered decisions; we can change our minds and behaviors for the better. Besides, all structural change start at a grassroot level – this is our playground.

Sustainability needs to be incorporated into every aspect of our lives. And the reality is that the fashion industry is built and upheld through exploitation and greenwashing. As such, we want to disclose what measures TRP takes to manage this as transparently and thoroughly as possible.

Sourced materials

We’ve made the conscious decision to exclude certain materials from The Reverence Project. That is, all things leather and new synthetic fibers. The only time we consider any of the two is when we find deadstock alternatives (leftover fabrics from other fashion brands). We primarily work with new textiles in our own prints, they’re mostly certified as sustainable (for example GOTS certified inks, Organic Better Cotton Initiative, OEKO-TEX, or made entirely out of recycled fibers). This is always specified under each product.

Made to order

Each of our garments are made to order, meaning that you need to allow for 2-3 weeks before your order is shipped. While this may feel unusual given the fast deliveries that many of us are used to, this is done to prevent TRP from stocking up on garments that are never sold only to end up in landfills. We want to save resources and ensure all materials have a dignified lifespan, and we don’t take your patience for granted. Besides, good things come to those who wait.

Made to measure

When ordering a garment you can always choose to have it altered to your unique measurements as long as you’re available for fittings at our studio in Stockholm. This is a local offer that we intend to expand in due time. Note that some of our garments can only be ordered locally since they have to be fitted to your body. Our experience tells us that a tailored garment is far more valuable to the wearer.

Production

All of our products are made in our studio in Stockholm at the moment. They’re always made in Sweden to ensure safe and well regulated work conditions. When we establish a long-standing relationship with a Swedish factory we will disclose details about their work conditions as well.

Moving away from micro-trends and towards timelessness

As a small company we distribute our resources with care. The traditional fashion system mostly relies on fashion weeks where large collections are shown several times a year. This increasingly sped up tempo allows micro-trends to get a few seconds of fame before dying out. There’s a correlation between this and the average person consuming more clothes only to throw them away even if they’re fully functional. Our way of tackling this is to slow the process down and offer looks rather than collections. More thought and care is put into each look when we use our developed criteria framework for good design:

– Are there enough details and nice materials to stimulate the senses for long?
– Is the design timeless? Although influenced by our current times, the garments need to last seasons without becoming dated.
– Can the garment be of transeasonal use?
– Have we managed to weave a story into our garment with storytelling and through that ascribed additional non-physical value to it?
– Is the design made in close contact with the original muse, have they had a say in the process about their needs, preferences and style?
– Does the design fit different body types or does a certain garment need to be altered to the body?
– Will the materials age gracefully?
– Is this a stand alone garment on its own that could also be combined with our other designs?

Social sustainability

Our interviews make up our community and we want to offer our muses as much agency as we possibly can. They inform our design process and freely choose what subject they want to speak on. We want to create garments that empower our muse, because that makes it easier to speak vulnerably and openly on something personal.

Garment care

Clothes should always be stored in dry and dark conditions, preferably be aired out before you consider washing them. Each garment has specified care instructions on our website. To ensure your garment has a long lifespan we wish that you honor its origin and wear it with care.
